The Making of a Home - Part 1

Most of you should know by now that we are totally consumed in our home project.

We have engaged a contractor and reno is scheduled to commence mid next month. I can't wait for it to start and of course, if given the choice, not even haf to deal with the apek. What's up with all these contractor apeks, anyway? Did they drop down from hell?

Until then, Wan and I will be busy shopping for our bathroom and kitchen accessories and also, our own little projects in the kitchen. The kitchen is btw, the biggest headache in the house. The contractor wanted to hack the existing cabinet and build new ones for $3.5k. Three point five bloody thousand! The cupboard looks new and sturdy albeit the ol skool laminate colour, so we decided to keep and just work around it. Which turns out to be a pain in the ass coz it was designed with empty spaces here and there to cater for certain appliances. But we certainly do not want to buy these appliances just to fit into the cabinet puzzle. Oy..

At this point tho, we've made good progress with the kitchen. Wan hacked part of the kitchen wall tiles and plastered it ALL ON HIS OWN which saved us $2.5k. Apek claimed it would cost that much to either overlay the wall tiles OR hack them and plaster over. We told apek to go to hell.

We discovered an excellent and cheap way to give the cabinet a new look! All hail The Internet God!

And we found a way to dispose this bulit-in disgusting table which was attached to the side of the cabinet. Oh what a relief! It's such an eyesore and not practical at all. The table was long with really small width and it's stuck to the wall. Why would anyone wanna eat with the wall smack in your face?

More updates coming up. Stay tune!

PS: I'm going to be thick-skinned here but some of you were asking what we want as house-warming gifts. I say, a maid would be good. Joking! I'll take vouchers, k. Ikea, Courts, Harvey Norman, Robinsons.. actually now would be perfect timing :p
