Go ahead and wish us

It's with much happiness & joy that I hereby announce that..

WE'VE HIT THE 10 YEARS MARK!!

Happy 10th anniversary baby! It's been a joy having u; my husband, my best friend, my psychiatrist and my punching bag, by my side all these years. You've done a great job humouring me, fed me, chocolated and even ice-creamed me throughout the ten looong years. May God bless us and may this be the 1st of many 10th anniversaries, to come!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hows the celebration going? Well we kept it simple. We had initially plan to go for a short holiday but with the rising prices, now is definitely not the right time to be splurging on a holiday. Plus like pure coincidence, there's family events..

more cake & cupcake orders...

(My 1st Whimsical/Topsy-Turvy cake!!)

and unexpected job interviews, ALL happening in the same week.

We did however, celebrated it before….

And after 11th June..

(Check out the size of my drink..)

What to do? Bad timing.

Anyway, back to our pre-celebration @ The Esplanade..

Knowing that Hubby is a huge fan of Malay black & white films, I thought it would be really nice to surprise him with P Ramlee The Musical tickets for our 10th Anniversary. Plus, it's a good start to get him to appreciate performing arts.

So 4 weeks ago on 18th May at 8pm, it was Wan's virgin experience being in Esplanade theatre, watching his very first live theatre performance and he truly enjoyed it!

As for me, I was very impressed firstly, with the design set and stage props. It was the nicest stage design set I've ever seen in live theatres. Imagine seeing an (almost) real-size antique locomotive train complete with smoke rolling onto the stage. Or the exact replica of old Lido cinema, complete with old movie posters and one apek sitting behind the ticketing window box. The props were so detailed that it instantly brought a sense of nostalgia to the whole atmosphere. Well done!

But of course, the most impressived of all was the man himself, P Ramlee, played by Musly Ramlee. OH.MY.GOD. This guy has such an uncannny resemblance to P Ramlee.. his looks, his walk, his voice, his accents. He did an excellent impersonation of the man himself, I must admit it was a tad scary. Bagaikan P Ramlee mati hidup semula! And when he sang, his voice was Bee-auti-fooool, I almost fell in love with him!

There's this one scene where he did a solo performance, after P Ramlee's divorce with Norizan, Musly Ramlee sang his heart out at my direction! MY direction! ( We were sitting quite close to the stage.. 6 rows from the front) I'd like to think he was using me as an inspiration untuk menghayati lagu :D haha.. Wishful thinking I noe, but he can't be possibly staring at that pakcik sitting in front of me, rite?

At that point, I felt a sudden urge to ran towards the stage, grab the man, and bring him home so that he could sit by my bed every morning and sing to me! Haha, I know, I sound insane!

Favourite scenes? Definitely had to be the express nikah they had between P Ramlee and Junaidah. That was comical! The moment P Ramlee said YES to the tricked proposal, the kadi appeared out of nowhere and he was married on the spot! All done in a matter of seconds! Tak sempat tukar baju kerja pon! And another favourite, is the scene of P Ramlee and Saloma aka Liza Hanim, singing "Cenderawasih mati tertimbus..". Liza Hanim's voice is so lunak (melodious), I almost had goosebumps. Liza Hanim is so damn sexy & voluptous la! Now I understand why hubby has a thang for her..

Overall, the storyline was good with appropriate comedy and tear-jerking moments. What I don't like, from P Ramlee The MUSICAL, was the musical itself. They should have just stick to strict theatre performance with inserts of P Ramlee songs here & there. But no… Dick Lee has to spoil it by composing songs that sound like they were meant for Beauty World. Such a shame that the songs dun fit in the whole 50s/60s era.

Nevertheless, I must say I surprised myself. For someone who don't really appreciate old films, I LOVED PRTM! Can't wait for it to come out in dvds.

PS: It's been a good day :)

Thank you, Shida!
