Indo Shopping Expedition - Day 3

We went to Bali!!!

Naaah, just kidding :p This is Taman Mini Indonesia, featuring the different cultures and landmarks of the many, many states in Indonesia.

Our fren here was looking for a 'Barongan'. Those scary looking masks worn during cultural performances. But the ones in the souvenir shop apparently weren't scary enough, so she asked the salesgirl in her broken Bahasa Indonesia..

NC: Ada barongan yg lain ngak? (Do you have other masks?)
Salesgirl: Mbak mau barongan yg bagaimana sih? (Ma'am, what kind are you looking for?)
NC: Yg ada fangs gitu... apa ya? Taring! (The kind with.... fangs!)
Salesgirl: Ooh. MOnsterrrr nya?? Ngak ada Mbak. (Oh, the monster ones? Don't have ma'am)

I was killing myself laughing!

Anyway, she just bought the less scary looking one in the shop..
If only she knew that there IS a real Monsterrrr travelling with us..

After Taman Mini, we went to SCBD Millenia in central Jakarta, also factory outlet, but not as happening as Rumah Mode. But 1st we stopped for authentic padang cuisine for lunch at Sari Ratu.

They'll serve ALL the dishes to your table and you just pick those you want. The waiter will come around after you've finished eating and only charge the dishes that were touched. .

Ayam pop..
Es Teler special. So niceeeee..

After SCBD, we went to the famous Plaza Indonesia which is the upmarket mall, equivalent to our Takashimaya or KLCC in M'sia.

A colleague asked me to look for this particular type of shoes but they've run out of stock. Instead, I got myself a pair of NineWest shoes next door. It's the Great Jakarta Sale and NineWest was having a 60% discount sale. I bought my pair at Rp340,000 (S$50)!!

Then we went to the shopping centre opposite, Djakarta Theatre where the gals shopped for perfumes and lastly to Pasar Baru which is like our Arab St with rows of textile shops.

Pasar Baru..
Bajai..

We headed back to the hotel after Pasar Baru and took an obligatory shot with our wonderful supir for 2 days, Bapak Dana. He's very polite and only talk when enquired. He didn't even asked where we were from which I like, because some of the shopkeepers will ketuk us if they knew we were S'poreans. Other than that he's pretty quiet. It's us kepo gals who asked him a thousand and one questions like where he's from, where he lived, how long he's been a driver etc, etc haha.. And the kind man patiently replied all our qns.

Somewhere along our conversions, we somehow made him panicked. Pak Dana asked where we wanna go next and we said, "Ayo kita langsung ke rumah bapak, makan malem!" (lets go to your house for dinner!). The poor man was stuttering..haha. He was prolly doing a mental calculation of how much food he has to serve us. Prolly as much as his family eats for a mth! Lolz.

But Pak Dana was such a sport. We passed by the Monas (Monument Nasional) and NC started singing the Indonesian National Anthem and he sang along.. so cute! I miss Bapak Dana!
